2: The Dogs, Lynchburg, TN & Jack Daniels

Bailey and Duncan are doing well too. They enjoy the pet resort we put them in when we travel but always like when we come back to get them.

Last Saturday we decided to take a trip to Lynchburg, TN. On our way, we saw a billboard on the highway for a familiar bakery. We quickly went off course and found a "slice of home."

Our reason for visiting Lynchburg was to see the Jack Daniels whiskey distillery. We had heard it is interesting and wanted to check it out. Lynchburg is a very small town and is in a dry county. That means they cannot sell or produce alcohol in the county. Jack Daniels has special permission to make the whiskey.

This is a cave where the spring Jack Daniels gets its water from is. It is a very pretty area and the water is great for whiskey making.

Photography is not allowed during much of the tour. The place smells horrible. At one point in the tour you are allowed to put your face over a vent of the early alcohol. The fumes burn your eyes and nose. After the whiskey is made, they make it a "Tennessee whiskey" by letting it run through charcoal. After that, it sits in specially made oak barrels for up to 8 years to get its flavor. I never realized it took so long to make. Each barrel is taste tested before being approved to be bottled. The smell of the final product has a caramel scent to it but is still bad enough that I'm not sure who would think it was a good idea to ingest. Lisa on the other hand thought the tasting floor at the Jack Daniels visitor center was even better than the one at the World of Coca-Cola!
