It's been about a month since the last blog post. Time to catch up.
In mid-August we had the opportunity to go to my friend John's wedding. John lives in Jacksonville, Florida now so we decided to make a road trip out of it and head south. Now mid-August in the South is a horrible time to do anything. This year was even worse though because the entire South was experiencing higher than average temperatures.
Our first stop was in Savannah, GA. We weren't going to be able to spend a lot of time here so we thought we would stay downtown and walk to the famous sites. The heat index was at 112 degrees though so we didn't make it too far from the air conditioning.
Savannah is very pretty with a lot of parks, historic buildings, and trees with the hanging Spanish moss.

Our greatest discovery was the famous Savannah's Candy Kitchen on the river. We tried the pralines and they were fantastic. We have been craving them ever since!

After Savannah we drove down to Jacksonville and crossed into Florida gaining a new state for both of us!
Because of the wedding we didn't see many Jacksonville sights. We did stay at a great hotel though. It was the Marriott on the Sawgrass golf course. It was amazingly beautiful there. We could have golfed but it would have cost about $300 each. And if you've seen the 17th hole at Sawgrass, you know I would have cost myself another $300 in lost balls.

The wedding was great. It was outside and the weather was just as hot as it was in Savannah. Luckily it was a beach theme so we were able to wear shorts and beach shirts. I forgot to bring my camera but everything looked great and it was good to see John again and meet his family!
On the way back from Jacksonville we decided to go through Atlanta and catch a Braves game. We were worried the game was going to be miserable because of the heat and the fact it was a day game. Luckily it was cooler than it had been and the game was quite comfortable, unless you were a Dodger fan. The Braves beat them quite handily. We had club level seats which was nice because you could go back to the concourse and it is air conditioned on the club level.

Lisa discovered Publix on this trip. Publix is simply a grocery store but it is very nice and has great bakery and deli items.
