Atlanta and Stone Mountain

A few weekends ago we were able to go to Atlanta. Our first stop was Turner Field. The South had been going through quite a heat wave. For weeks the temperatures and heat indices were well above 100 degrees. This day was no different, but we were at the game hours early anyway. It was Chipper Jones bobblehead night and we wanted to make sure we got one. (We did by the way.)

Here is Lisa waiting on the pavilion for the gates to open, and yes, she is wearing a Braves shirt. I find I love her less when she's dressed like this.

We knew it would be a hot day so we bought our tickets on the club level. This means all the concession areas are air conditioned. Every few innings we would go in and cool off.

Then out of nowhere a storm came in. They showed the radar on the big screen and the only cloud in the Atlanta area was right over Turner Field. Unfortunately the rain couldn't even cool things off.

They resumed the game after about an hour delay. The Braves ended up losing to the Pirates but it was still a good game.

The next morning Cammie and Nathan took us to Stone Mountain. Stone Mountain is a huge mountain of granite that sticks up randomly from the earth. This is us waiting to take the tram to the top of the mountain.

To honor the Southern armies from the Civil War, they have carved a monument into the mountain. It shows Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee, and Stonewall Jackson on their horses.

To show how big the mountain and the carvings are, they have an area where there are life size replicas. This is the nose of one of the horses.

The area around Stone Mountain is very pretty too. If you went on a day that wasn't over 100 degrees, and didn't have a 3 year old with you, you could easily spend a whole day there. They even have a laser show on the mountain in the evening.

Our last stop was the train that goes all the way around the mountain.

After Stone Mountain we went to Cammie's house. Nathan and I played iPad while we waited for Dan to get off work. Once he did Cammie cooked us a nice dinner before we had to drive back to Knoxville.
