This was our last day in New York City. We started the day by taking the subway to the Brooklyn Bridge. I was surprised to find out that it is over a mile long. We walked over to the Brooklyn side and back.
We then headed to the ferry and the Statue of Liberty. It was neat to see how the Statue of Liberty would truly have welcomed everyone travelling to America to start a new life. The island and statue are very pretty and nice to see.
That evening we took the subway to Queens to see the Mets and Citi Field. Wouldn't you know it, the Chicago Cubs were in town! What luck!
Citi Field also opened in 2009. Of the 3 stadiums we saw on our trip it was our favorite. It is very fan friendly and has the feel of a baseball park.
This was the Mets first home game since 04/15 so they celebrated Jackie Robinson Day. Again everyone wore #42. Citi Field is designed to look like Ebbetts Field where the Brooklyn Dodgers and Jackie Robinson played. They even have a permanent Jackie Robinson rotunda and have adopted this history. They had a great tribute to him and we were even able to see Jackie's widow.
Unfortunately the Cubs lost. They are now 1-3 in the four games we've seen them in. Lisa must be bad luck. We did get to see Mr. Met though which is always a highlight and I caught (or ended up with) a shirt launched from the t-shirt gun between innings. It was a good time and a nice way to end our New York experience.
