Vegas

Lisa and I were recently able to go on a vacation to Las Vegas and Southern California. It was a pretty long trip so the posts will be broken up. We started by driving to Nashville. We had to leave a day earlier than we planned to avoid a big snowstorm that was coming. We arrived in Nashville and were sitting down to dinner when it hit. It was lucky we had decided to leave earlier because the next morning, most of the roads were impassable. Then we flew to Vegas! It had been a long time since we'd been to Vegas. We thoroughly enjoyed this trip. So much has changed and there was a ton to see and do. We didn't gamble though, not even on the Cubs to win the Series.

We stayed at The Mirage on the strip. It was a great room with a good view of the city.

We noticed that many of the new casinos had an Asian influence. We went shortly after the Chinese New Year and there were still a lot of decorations for the year of the rabbit. This is in the Aria.

We went to the Aria to see the Cirque du Soleil Viva Elvis! show. It was amazing. It was the first cirque show either of us had seen. They performed to Elvis songs that had been remixed. I highly recommend it to anyone going to Vegas.

All of this, including the traveling, was on our first day in Vegas. And even though Vegas never sleeps, by the time we hit the fountains at the Bellagio, Lisa needed to.

On our 2nd day we were rested and refreshed. We spent some time walking through a few more casinos. It was great weather.

That evening we saw Phantom at the Venetian. I was excited to see the show because it is a well known musical and I knew they had built the theater specifically for this show. It turned out to be a dud though. But it wasn't anywhere near as bad as the Sirens of TI show at Treasure Island. Even the fact that it was free and had women dancing couldn't make it worth watching.

After Phantom, we went to the Stratosphere so we could go in the tower and see the city at night. It was quite windy which made taking pictures difficult. It was fun to see all the lights from up high though.

When we came down from the tower, one of the Stratosphere's shows was getting out. We were able to meet some of the cast. I met Lady Gaga!

We had a great time in Vegas and hope to go back soon!
